The Autumn and Winter months have been announced by way of gales and torrential rain with the occasional clear day in-between. This, of course, makes organising walks a challenge as we don’t always want to get drenched from the outset even though we are prepared for a soaking every now and then while out. A few walks have had to be re-arranged but we have still done pretty well in the circumstances. The years count for walks by Eryri Ramblers is 77, taking in the hills, mountains, coastlines, and village footpaths in our beautiful area. A big thanks go out to the walk leaders and walk organiser, Roy Milnes, who has encouraged us all and has taken care of the admin side so that the walks are advertised and the walk leaders are informed of walker numbers and information.
It is very sad therefore that Roy is unable to continue as Walks Secretary. He writes as follows:
Having been in the post for eight years and also due to personal reasons, I have decided to retire from Walks Secretary (I will remain a committee member). Pleasingly, Matt Nobles has agreed to take over as Walks Secretary and join the committee in January. Matt is a qualified Alpine Mountain leader and brings invaluable expertise and experience to the Eryri team.
Our membership continues to increase (261 + 6 affiliates), we have Eryri members living in Welshpool, Oswestry, Deeside and Manchester and we have leaders from Rhyl, Holywell, Ruthun, Bala and Llandudno a testament to the attractive walks we put on and the way we organise them. This autumn has been terrible particularly on Saturdays with several walks having to be cancelled or rescheduled, Hugh has tried three times to run a walk. Roy
It is somber to note that some of our Committee Members and Walk Leaders this year have been affected by ill health or have caring commitments and have had to pull back on their volunteering work for Eryri Ramblers. We are so fortunate to have people willing to give up some of their time to help run our group, and we are extremely grateful to them. We are delighted therefore that Di Doughty will join us on the Committee from next year. Our Chairman, Dafydd Jones has had to resign (see notices) and as a result. we have delayed our next AGM until the New Year and is now on WEDNESDAY 28 JANUARY 2026 (see notices).
We are always looking for people to give some of their time to help so if you are able to volunteer for any of the offices of the Committee, or become a walk leader, we would be very happy to hear from you. We are only able to continue as a group if we have willing people to help us along and to continue our programme of fabulous walks. Please come along to the next AGM and hear all about it.
NOTICES;
Our Chairman, Dafydd Jones, has decided to tender his resignation as Chairman and Committee Member of Eryri Ramblers after 16 years of commitment to our group as well as a long time walker with us. He has presided over meetings and reported to County level meetings of The Ramblers with dedication and professionalism. He will be greatly missed and the Committee would like to thank him for his input and generous time.

SOME INTERESTING READING
Di Doughty has kindly written a review of this interesting book:
Tir, The story of the Welsh landscape
Whilst out walking, how often do we look at a place name, a feature in the landscape, the name of a dwelling and wonder: why that name, how did that feature evolve in that particular place?
Carwen Graves, the author of this book, has written about this legacy through the lens of Welsh culture and language. The book is divided into sections, such as "cae", "mynydd "and "rhos". All are linked together by his research into myths, poetry and legends and his conversations with people who know their "cynefin" so well.
This is a book which may change the way you look at the landscape.
Here are a few photos from this years outings: Perhaps we could have a photo competition next year?
